The Solar Future: Italy

In 2011, Italy is set to be the world's second largest market, possibly even the largest. It is also arguable that the Italian market has already reached the critical point of grid parity in the residential segment. Regrettably, however, this optimistic outlook suffered some setbacks with the introduction of the new Italian feed-in tariff mechanism.

The Italian Government announced in March that it would change the FiT mechanism that had been approved just last August. The new scheme applies until 2016 and sets a 23 GW installed capacity target. A big downside of the 4th Conto Energia is that it also incorporates a very complex registry mechanism. This mechanism results in delays and makes large-scale projects difficult to finance.

This tough mix of positive prospects and negative influences makes it difficult to gain a clear picture of just how the Italian solar PV market is going to develop. What will be the market opportunities and the most attractive market segments? Will solar energy offer a competitive alternative to grid power? 'The Solar Future: Italy' will seek to find the answers to these questions and many more.

On the first day of the event, Solarplaza will host an interactive full-day conference in Milan. During this conference a high-level selection of expert speakers will clarify the latest details of the 4th Conto Energia and the Italian incentives, and share their knowledge on the financing of solar PV in Italy and the impact of international developments (module price declines amongst other issues) on the Italian market.

On the (optional) second day of the event, Solarplaza will take the participants to visit several projects in Northern Italy, providing them with the unique opportunity to see these projects up close and ask their representatives about the development, maintenance and exploitation of the projects.

Apart from gaining essential knowledge on the Italian PV market, The Solar Future: Italy will also provide you with an important networking opportunity - not only throughout the conference sessions but also during the optional dinner afterwards and the project visit day.
